West Brom’s ambitious attempt to sign William Carvalho looks dead in the water after Manchester United midfield general Bastian Schweinsteiger rejected a move to Sporting Lisbon to me his replacement, The Birmingham Mail report.
The Portugal international has a stellar reputation in the game after starring for club and country in recent years and is consistently linked with a move to the Premier League.
The Baggies are one of the busier English teams in the transfer window as the hours wind down, with Nacer Chadli signed from Spurs for a club-record fee earlier this week.

Carvalho is believed to be in the sights of Tony Pulis’ men but a deal to land the deep-lying playmaker looks unlikely to happen.
Sporting are believed to have identified United outcast Schweinsteiger as a potential replacement should their prized asset leave his homeland this summer.
However, the report suggests that the German stalwart has spurned a move to Lisbon and as such Carvalho is set to stay put at Sporting.
