Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has confessed that a brief call from Jose Mourinho was all it took for the veteran attacker to move to Old Trafford over the summer.

The Swedish frontman is adjudged as one of the most gifted centre forwards of a generation and was available on a free transfer ahead of this season after his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expired.

Ibrahimovic worked with Mourinho previously at Inter Milan and the prestigious pair have been reunited at the Premier League side.

The former Barcelona striker has started the new campaign well, with his Portuguese manager preferring the veteran to rising United star Marcus Rashford in the number nine role.

Ibrahimovic has revealed that once he knew Mourinho wanted him at Old Trafford it was merely a case of concluding the formalities before he became a Red Devils player.

“There were talks about me coming to United one year ago, that is correct,” he told The Mirror.

“But I didn’t believe in it then because it was not the right moment. Then they get the Special One and when the Special One calls you and when he starts to talk to you, you are already convinced.

“He didn’t need to talk a lot to convince me. It was only enough to call me and say, ‘Listen, I’m waiting for you in Manchester’, and I was coming.

“I know what he wants, his demands and I know what he goes for. He is a winner. I see myself as a winner also. I like to win. I’ll do everything to win. He thinks the same thing.

“We won when we were younger and we will win when we are a little bit older. The more time we spend together, the more time we train together, the better we get.”

Ibrahimovic will need to be at his best if United are to get anything from their trip to face Liverpool at Anfield on Monday night, with three invaluable Premier League points at stake.
