Rooney’s role in the United side has been a hot topic for debate in recent weeks, with the former Everton prodigy dropped to the bench by Jose Mourinho after a spate of poor performances.
This has led to speculation over the 30-year-old’s future at Old Trafford, with the veteran seemingly set to play a fringe role at the Premier League club this season.
Rooney has also been dropped by England in recent times, with a frustrating injury the latest setback for the Aintree-born star.
Mourinho is likely to field Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial in his attack at Stamford Bridge.
