Manchester United are ready to try and pry Jose Gimenez from Atletico Madrid and will make an approach for the young defender when the transfer reopens, according to The Mirror.
The Old Trafford outfit bolstered their squad over the course of the summer, with Jose Mourinho bringing four new faces to the Premier League side.
However, United are believed to be ready to make more waves in the transfer market with further recruitment in the new year and next summer.
Pasa el tiempo pero la ilusión sigue intacta. Hoy se cumplen 3 años de mi debut. Gracias a todos por el apoyo ? ?⚪️ pic.twitter.com/sYUAnVl7sY

Gimenez has been an unheralded star in the Atletico team that has gone toe-to-toe with Barcelona and Real Madrid in recent years.
The 21-year-old has starred under Diego Simeone’s guidance and plays alongside compatriot Diego Godin in the Atleti back four.
It would surely take a massive offer to convince the La Liga side to part company with Gimenez, who is seemingly set to be a household name in the global game as he matures.
United have Eric Bailly and Daley Blind as their first-choice defensive pairing, with Chris Smalling providing competition at the Premier League club.
