Although Manchester United’s poor week has brought all those around Old Trafford back down to earth, there is a collective feeling that the Red Devils are set to get back to close to their best under Jose Mourinho.
Impressive summer signings bolstered the historic club’s ranks and strengthened the spine of a team that had underachieved last term under Louis van Gaal.

However, despite Mourinho adding the four players he wanted over the course of the summer, there are still lingering doubts over the right-back position as an area that can be improved.
Antonio Valencia has been turned from a winger into a makeshift full-back in recent times and is first choice in the position while Matteo Darmian acts as a deputy but has not made much of impression since moving to England last summer.
As such, it would not be a huge surprise to see United move for a new right-back in the January window.
A player that would seemingly fit the bill and fit into the Mourinho way of playing is Stephan Lichtsteiner.
The Swiss veteran has been a driving force in a massively successful Juventus team over recent years, but his importance to the Turin giants underestimated at times.

The Bianconeri’s summer signing of Dani Alves has seen Lichtsteiner relegated to second choice, while the former Lazio man was also omitted from the Serie A side’s Champions League squad.
As such, whether it is a loan move or a shrewd mid-season acquisition, Lichtsteiner’s addition looks ideal for Mourinho’s men.
An experienced defender with an incredible work-rate, attacking instincts and commitment, adding Paul Pogba’s former team-mate to the Red Devils ranks could be a masterstroke by the Premier League side.
