Manchester City eased to a 6-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday night and fans were delighted with the performance of one of their stars on social media.

Pep Guardiola’s side edged closer to a place in the next round of the Champions League as they dominated proceedings against the Ukrainian outfit at the Etihad Stadium.

The Citizens found themselves in front when David Silva opened the scoring inside the first quarter-of-an-hour before they were somewhat fortunate to be awarded a penalty.

The referee pointed to the spot when Raheem Sterling appeared to kick the turf and fall over without any contact from the defender.

Gabriel Jesus took full advantage of the mistake and converted from the spot to send the Premier League side into half-time with a comfortable lead.

City continued their dominance in the second half when Sterling got himself on the scoresheet before the Brazilian striker converted his second penalty of the game.

Riyad Mahrez made it five before Jesus completed his hat-trick just before the final whistle to complete the rout.

Fans were understandably delighted to have overcome a potentially tough test with relative ease and edge themselves closer to the next round.

The performance of Mahrez appeared to have stuck out for many of the supporters on social media, with plenty claiming the winger ‘stole the show’.

The Algeria international, who arrived from Leicester City in a fee thought to be around £60million, has started to prove he was a good purchase and were excited to see him start becoming the player that left the Foxes in the summer.
