Chelsea thumped Dynamo Kiev 5-0 on Thursday evening to book their place in the quarter final of the Europa League, and after the match their striker came in for plenty of praise after his impact on the tie.

The Blues headed out to Ukraine with the majority of the job done from the first leg, which they won 3-0, and knowing that all they had to do was avoid a complete meltdown in order to secure their spot in the draw for the next round on Friday.

Maurizio Sarri hinted that there would be changes to his Chelsea side for the second game, and while he did use some of his squad in Kiev, he went in with a strong team and was suitably rewarded with a resounding victory.

The Blues were put on their way by Olivier Giroud just five minutes into the match, and any hopes the home side may have had of causing a huge shock ended there and then really.

The France international then put Chelsea five goals to the good on aggregate later in the first half before Marcos Alonso added another right on half time.

The only question to be answered after the break would be how many the Blues would win by, and the answer was five after Giroud completed his hat trick, before Callum Hudson-Odoi rounded off the scoring for the second match in succession in this competition.

To be fair, there was a number of players who contributed heavily to the Chelsea victory, but one man was the centre of attention on social media after the game.

That was of course the player who notched the perfect hat trick. Giroud is the leading scorer in the Europa League now, and the Blues fans were certainly impressed with the forward in Kiev.

He was the subject of plenty of positive posts after the game, some of which can be seen below.
