Liverpool are keeping a close eye on Lorenzo Insigne’s contract situation at Napoli, with the creative star’s agent pushing to land a ‘dream’ move to Anfield for his client, according to The Daily Star.

The Reds have started the new season at a blistering pace, with Jurgen Klopp’s men scoring a division-high 20 goals in their first nine Premier League games.

Insigne is stalling on a new deal with the Serie A side and is believed to be asking for a wage in the region of £100,000 per week.

With the Naples-based outfit reluctant to pay the 25-year-old’s demands, talk in the press that the Italy international could be set for a transfer has been starting to build over recent weeks.

It is believed that Insigne wants to move to Merseyside and work with Klopp, however Napoli are digging their heels in and want a fee of more than £40 million for the winger.

Should Liverpool add another attacking star like Insigne to their squad, it would cast even more doubts over Daniel Sturridge’s future at Anfield.

  1. Sturridge is fit, but yet so far off the pace when he plays. It destroys the tempo and the rhythm of the rest of the team. I’d put Origi and Ings ahead of him at the moment, so I think if we got anywhere near £35m for him, we could replace him with a winger as the queue for the no.9 position is longer.

    • Sturridge is one of the most lethal strikers in the league when fit and in the mood – but those days don’t come around often anymore by the looks of it. Think Firmino is a more rounded option to lead the line, so agreed, if there was big money on offer I’d sell him
