The eyes of the footballing world will be firmly locked on the north west of England on Monday night as Liverpool host Manchester United at Anfield.

The home team come into the game on the back of three successive wins in September, enough to earn boss Jurgen Klopp the Manager of the Month award.

That is a stark contrast to the recent form of United, with Jose Mourinho’s charges only lumbering to a 1-1 draw at home to Stoke City in the final game before the international break.

The Reds will be sweating on the fitness of both Adam Lallana and Georginio Wijnaldum in the run up to the game, with the latter picking up a hamstring strain while attending to international commitments for Holland.

As such, Emre Can could well make an appearance in the heart of his side’s midfield after sitting the last couple of games out.

United meanwhile should have Henrik Mkhitaryan available following a thigh strain, but the contest just comes too soon for Phil Jones who is back in training after a lengthy period on the sidelines with a knee-ligament injury.

Wayne Rooney looks set to start the game from the bench, with Marcus Rashford’s pace on the counter attack surely in Mourinho’s thinking.

It was the men from Manchester who celebrated in this fixture last season, with the Old Trafford outfit completing a Premier League double over their fierce rivals.

With the game being dubbed as Red Monday in the press, it will certainly be an enthralling battle to see whether the enigmatic Klopp or the ruthless Mourinho will come out on top.

Liverpool Predicted Line-Up: Karius; Clyne, Lovren, Matip, Milner; Can, Henderson, Lallana; Coutinho, Mane; Firmino

Manchester United Predicted Line-Up: De Gea; Valencia, Bailly, Smalling, Shaw; Pogba, Herrera; Martial, Mata, Rashford; Ibrahimovic
