Liverpool team news: Midfield trio ruled out of Watford clash

Runaway Premier League leaders Liverpool are due to play in a Premier League game against relegation-threatened Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday.

The two sides have had contrasting fortunes this season and on paper, it should be a mere formality for the Reds to win the game.

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side should not take anything for granted especially as they were given a run for their money in their previous game which was also against relegation threatened West Ham.

Liverpool veteran James Milner will be absent from the game due to a slight muscle problem, but could return when his team play against Chelsea in the FA Cup next Tuesday, according to BBC Sport.

The report added that Reds captain Jordan Henderson and attacker Xherdan Shaqiri will remain out of action.

Liverpool have overwhelmingly dominated the recent encounters between the two sides and Watford have not beaten them during the last eight games that they have played against each other.

Not only do the Reds have the advantage in terms of the quality of their players but they will also have a psychological advantage.

The Anfield giants have scored 27 times in the nine league games which they have played against the Hornets under the guidance of Klopp.

This represents more goals than they have scored against any other side from the top-flight.

Watford also enter the game on the back of poor form and have not won during their previous five Premier League games.

If Nigel Pearson’s side manage to somehow pull off a shock victory, it will go down as one of the biggest upsets of the season.
