Liverpool look to win their Champions League group with a match to spare when they host Napoli on Wednesday evening, and boss Jurgen Klopp has provided a fitness update on his squad ahead of the contest.
The Reds lost their opening match in their defence of the elite European title, going down 2-0 to their opponents in this game, but they have bounced back from that with three straight wins, and another here would be a huge boost.
Liverpool have a massive December ahead of them, so the opportunity to be able to rest players for the final Champions League group game is something that would be welcomed by Jurgen Klopp, so the focus of the Merseyside outfit will be on getting the job done here.
To help them with that quest, Reds boss Klopp has revealed that he has no fresh injury concerns for the visit of the Italians, and gave an update on the status of a number of squad members, when he addressed the media ahead of the game.
“Good, good. No long-term injuries – no Joel [Matip], no Clyney, no Paul [Glatzel].” The Liverpool official website quote him as saying.
“Naby was a little bit [ill] after the game, he trained yesterday but all the others look fine.”
The Liverpool manager was also asked for the latest update on star man Mo Salah, who could be a big player for the Anfield outfit over the busy period ahead of them.
“Mo looks really good. He looked really good in training the day before yesterday especially, after the game. It was really good.
“Yesterday we didn’t do too much, so we will see today – but I’m not worried about it.”
It will be a real statement of intent for their defence of the Champions League title, if Liverpool can make it into the knockout stage with a match to spare. That is the task awaiting completion on Wednesday evening.
