Liverpool are looking to offset the loss of Joe Gomez due to injury as they have stepped up their interest in Toulouse defender Jean-Clair Todibo, according to The Express.

The 18-year-old centre-half is touted as a big prospect, having made the step-up to the first team from the French club’s academy this season.

Gomez has been integral to Liverpool’s great start to the season, as his centre-back partnership with Virgil Van Djik has helped the Reds remain the only unbeaten side in the Premier League.

The England international suffered a broken leg in a 3-1 victory away to Burnley, and will miss the rest of the year and face over a month out of action.

Liverpool have Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren who can step-in, with the former doing exactly that in their 4-0 romp of Bournemouth, but Jurgen Klopp seems keen on bringing in Todibo for further cover.

The French defender has made 10 appearances so far this season, scoring his first goal via an 87th minute equaliser against Rennes back in September.

The Liverpool target has been sent-off during the current campaign, as he picked up two yellow cards in a 2-1 victory over Guingamp in only his third start.

Klopp looks set for a January raid on Toulouse for the signature of Todibo, however he faces stern opposition from Manchester United and Juventus who are also interested in the youngster.

With his performances attracting interest across Europe, Liverpool will have to act fast if they are to bring the 18-year-old to Anfield during the winter transfer window.
