Liverpool have rejected an offer from Sunderland to take striker Danny Ings on loan this season according to The Daily Mail, while the Wearside outfit have also been unsuccessful in landing Jay Rodriguez from Southampton.
David Moyes is clearly keen to add quality to the Black Cats squad he has inherited this summer, with the North East club expected to be busy in the closing days of the transfer window.

Ings was signed by Brendan Rodgers last summer after an impressive season with Burnley but suffered a serious injury that kept him out of action for the majority of last season.
With Jurgen Klopp preferring other options in attacking such as Divock Origi, Roberto Firmino and Daniel Sturridge, it remains to be seen just how much football the Englishman will get at Anfield in 2016-17.
Rodriguez is another that has suffered from debilitating injuries of late but the England international is back in first-team contention at St Mary’s.
With Claude Puel’s men clearly having a use for the returning striker, Sunderland’s efforts to recruit are seemingly back to the drawing board.
