Liverpool have been linked with another two of Southampton’s stars, with The Sun stating that the Reds will offer £40 million in January for defensive pair Virgil van Dijk and Sam McQueen.
The Anfield outfit have raided the south coast club for the likes of Adam Lallana, Sadio Mane and Dejan Lovren in the past, with the Saints selling their assets for a handsome profit.
Van Dijk has been in fine form this season and has been a revelation in the Premier League since moving south of the border from Scottish champions Celtic.
Claude Puel’s men will surely be keen to hold onto the Dutch enforcer, who is tied down to a long-term contract at the St Mary’s Stadium.
McQueen meanwhile has made his debut in the Premier League this season, deputising for Ryan Bertrand at left-back on occasion and impressing.
The Reds have James Milner playing out of position in the full-back role and this is an area that Jurgen Klopp is expected to try to reinforce either in January or next summer.
The allure of moving to the title-chasing Anfield outfit will be there for both players but Southampton hold all the cards and will surely want to avoid losing key men mid-season.
