CSKA Moscow striker Fedor Chalov is a major target for the Premier League’s top six, with Liverpool competing with Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Manchester United in the hunt for his signature, report The Mirror.
But the English sides are joined by some of Europe’s top clubs in the pursuit for a player who could cost in excess of £20 million.
It is thought that German trio Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig, as well as Ligue 1 outfit Monaco and Sevilla of Spain are all interested in snapping up the young Russia international.
He made 31 domestic appearances for CSKA last term, bagging 15 goals, and also netted twice in six Champions League outings, including an effort against La Liga giants Real Madrid.
A natural finisher, Chalov has also showcased an ability to create for his team-mates, providing a total of seven assists in the Russian league last season.
While Liverpool’s front three of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino will take some displacing from the starting XI, extra cover in that area would allow manager Jurgen Klopp a little more freedom for rotation.
The Reds boss has already suggested that this summer will not be a bumper window for his side, but the opportunity to pick up a real talent at a reasonable price would likely be taken under consideration.
With his ability to lay on chances for others as well as finding the net himself, he would seem to fit into the Liverpool blueprint, but the likes of Arsenal and United would perhaps be better positioned to offer Chalov regular first-team football.
Liverpool are looking to improve on a second-placed finish in the Premier League last season, although they will do well to better an incredible tally of 97 points that was somehow beaten by City’s 98.
