Liverpool have completed the signing of Monaco midfielder Fabinho for an initial fee of around £40 million, and fans of the club are looking forward to seeing him in action.

The Reds have won the race to sign the Brazilian, who was also attracting the interest of other clubs in Europe including Juventus, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain.

Fabinho has signed a long-term contract at Anfield and Liverpool could eventually pay another £4.4 million in bonuses to Monaco.

He will move to England and complete his transfer on July 1 – the same day that Naby Keita will arrive from RB Leipzig.

Fabinho’s arrival will strengthen manager Jurgen Klopp’s midfield options, although as some fans have intimated, it does suggest that Emre Can may well end up leaving the club this summer.

In any case, the 24-year-old – who can also play at right-back – will ease the burden on Jordan Henderson and James Milner in the centre of the park.

Liverpool fans seem happy with the signing, and praised the club managing to get the deal done within 72 hours of the Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid.

They are already anticipating him slotting into the line-up behind Keita, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah.

Some even believe that Klopp is beginning to build a squad capable of winning the Premier League.

However, there are some supporters who are taking a pragmatic view, and realise that one or two transfers will not magically transform Liverpool into title contenders.

They feel that the club needs to do more work in the transfer market if they are to build on this season’s efforts and challenge for the Premier League title. For them, the arrivals of Fabinho and Keita are just the start.
