Leicester City have identified Red Bull Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita as a potential midfield recruit according to The Mirror, as they continue to look to fill the void left by N’Golo Kante over the summer.

The 21-year-old moved between the Red Bull-sponsored clubs, switching from Austrian outfit Salzburg to German team Leipzig.

Keita has made an impressive start to life in the Bundesliga, scoring three goals and having a positive influence in seven games for the newly promoted side.

The Guinean all-action star has recently admitted that he had the chance to move to the Premier League over the summer and rejected an opportunity to join Arsenal’s ranks.

However, the latest report suggests that Leicester are keeping a close eye on Keita ahead of a potential transfer bid, but will have their work cut out to convince Leipzig to sell the star.

More of an attacking player than Kante, the young star’s arrival would bolster Claudio Ranieri’s options in midfield.

  1. The though that a players who apparently rejected Arsenal (who were not interested in him anyway) would want to join a mid table team is puzzling.

    • Maybe he wants game time. Arsenal have more than enough talented players to rotate once in a while, whereas Leicester – as well as other teams lacking the depth of the bigger teams – could give him the game time he wants. Either that, or he wants a move to a specific club and he won’t settle for any other.

  2. Maybe he does not see Leicester as a mid table team, unbeaten at home for the last twenty matches and seemed to have adjusted their away form now with a draw away to Tottenham. Only ten games in, not sure Leicester can be called a mid table team just yet.
