Everton drew 1-1 with Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League last Sunday afternoon but a nasty injury to midfielder Andre Gomes overshadowed the match, and afterwards fans took to social media to wish the Portuguese star well.
The Toffees went into the contest with the Champions League finalists needing a positive result and performance after a really indifferent start to their campaign, but the outcome soon became insignificant after the horrendous accident which left the former Barcelona star with a fractured dislocation of his ankle.
Everton actually held their own in the first-half, reaching the break with the match goalless and in a position where they would have hoped to strike in the second period, against a side who have had plenty of troubles this term themselves.
What the Toffees did not need was to fall behind, but that is exactly what happened when Dele Alli gave Tottenham the lead on 63 minutes, converting a good counter attacking move.
As Everton tried to get back into the game, they suffered the huge blow of the injury to Gomes, one that looks set to put him on the sidelines for a lengthy period of time.
To be fair to the Toffees, their players roused themselves to finally force an equaliser through Cenk Tosun in the 12 minutes of injury time that was played, although the sombre celebrations highlighted just how irrelevant the result became.
Everton fans were all understandably concerned at the status of their midfield maestro, and when the club finally provided an update on his situation on social media, there was an outpouring of support for the 26-year-old summer signing.
Toffees supporters took to Twitter to send in their best wishes and prayers for a speedy recovery to a popular figure at Goodison Park.
