Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa is looking to add an unnamed Premier League player to his squad before Friday night’s transfer deadline, according to respected journalist Phil Hay.

The Whites have made a dream start to life under the much-travelled Argentine boss and are currently top of the Championship table, ahead of second-place Middlesbrough on goal difference.

Leeds’ 3-0 win away to promotion hopefuls Norwich City saw the Yorkshire outfit extend their unbeaten start to the campaign and further underlined the positive impact Bielsa’s desire for high-intensity, attacking football has had on his side.

However, the former Argentina and Chile boss is looking to add depth to his side by the end of the week by bringing in an unnamed player from England’s top flight.

After fans asked Hay whether ‘El Loco’ was set to make a move for Wigan Athletic’s Nick Powell or Sheffield Wednesday’s, Hay replied that the veteran boss had his eye on a Premier League player.

Bielsa is reportedly looking for cover in the middle of the park and has no interest in beefing up his backline, however, it remains to be seen which midfielder the Whites manage to bring in.

Leeds are back in action on Tuesday night, when they welcome Preston North End to Elland Road, where they will be hoping to secure a spot in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

However, Bielsa’s focus may be on Friday night’s mouth-watering clash with Tony Pulis’ Middlesbrough and there will be no doubt that the Whites will be looking to lay down a marker for the season ahead and secure three points against a side expected to challenge for promotion, come May.

Whether Leeds’ potential new signing will be at Elland Road to witness that clash, however, remains to be seen.
