Leeds United have been hit by a barrage of injuries so far this season, however midfielder Kalvin Phillips has revealed that some of their star men are nearing a return.
The 22-year-old gave a promising update on trio Pablo Hernandez, Kemar Roofe and Gaetano Berardi, who are all back in training.
“They did a tough session yesterday, looking sharp, looking fit,” Phillps told Leeds Live during a community visit to Leeds General Infirmary.
“It’s just getting a little bit of match sharpness, but they are looking really well and they’re just looking forward to getting back.”
Leeds have had their small squad decimated of late, with several of their star players spending time in the treatment room.
While the imminent returns of Hernandez, Roofe and Beradi will give Marcelo Bielsa a huge lift, he still has others sidelined at the moment.
Patrick Bamford and Barry Douglas are still unavailable for Leeds, however they will be using the international break to get the squad back up to full fitness.
Bielsa has already revealed his plans to give some of his most used players extra recovery time, while his fringe players are using the break to get up to match fitness.
Despite their injury crisis, Leeds have enjoyed a successful start to the season as they sit third in the Championship table.
Bielsa’s men are just two points off the league leaders, and will be hoping the international break gives his players the chance to recharge and continue to push for a place at the summit.
