Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has once again surprised everyone, by naming his starting XI for the Championship clash with Norwich City at Elland Road on Saturday evening.
The Whites’ boss has been quite open in recent press conferences regarding his team selection, but with the match against the Canaries being a huge one in the race to the Premier League, many wondered if he would be quite so willing to divulge such information this time around.
Those questions were soon answered when the Leeds coach addressed the media in his usual imitable style ahead of the high profile encounter, where he gave confirmation of the men who will be heading into battle for the Yorkshire side.
“The team will be, Kiko Casilla, Luke Ayling, Liam Cooper, Pontus Jansson, Ezgjan Alioski, Adam Forshaw, Mateusz Klich, Tyler Roberts, Jack Harrison, Pablo Hernandez and Kemar Roofe.” The Whites’ official website quote him as saying.
Bielsa was later questioned on who could be on the bench for the top of the table contest. He confirmed that left-back Barry Douglas would be involved, but that there would be no place in the match day squad for Izzy Brown.
The Argentine coach missed out on his main transfer target on deadline day, which leaves him a little short of attacking options. Despite that, he confirmed that he would not even contemplate changing the style of his team for the match.
“Absolutely not. It’s so hard to build a style and it takes so long. If you can change something easily it means it was not hard to build it. I never think about changing the style. I’d rather focus on correcting or improving what we are doing.”
Leeds go into the match three points ahead of the Canaries in the Championship table, so they will be hoping to move six clear in the race for the Premier League, with a victory over the Norfolk outfit.
