Reported Leeds United target Hosam Aiesh has claimed ‘there is no smoke without fire’ regarding the Championship club’s rumoured interest.
The 24-year-old has been linked with a move to Elland Road during the current transfer window, as Marcelo Bielsa looks to bolster his Leeds squad.
Aiesh is highly-rated in Sweden having become a key player at IFK Ostersund, scoring 15 goals and producing 24 assists in his 108 appearances.
Now, the midfielder has spoken out about a potential move to Leeds, claiming there is ‘great interest’ in his services.
“There is no smoke without fire,” Aiesh told Swedish news outlet Fotboll Skanalen.
“There are clubs that are right, then there are clubs that I do not know if that is true. They can be interested and watch matches without me knowing about it.
“I actually keep track of who is sitting in the stands. But there is great interest and there have been many phone calls about my location. It looks positive, but if it does not happen now, I will continue to perform here in Östersund.”
Although Leeds are heavily linked with Aiesh, a potential transfer may be unlikely due to their current dealings in the summer window.
Helder Costa has arrived at Elland Road in one of the best pieces of business in the Championship so far, as he will occupy the number 10 role for Bielsa.
Jack Harrison has also returned to Leeds on a loan-to-buy deal from Manchester City, and although Jack Clarke left the club for Tottenham Hotspur, he has also returned on loan.
While Aiesh is a talented player, Leeds are likely to be looking to strengthen their back four as they look to go one better than last season.
Bielsa will still be smarting from their play-off defeat to Derby County, and will be looking to lead the Whites back to the Premier League.
If he is to achieve that goal, a quality addition to the Leeds back four is more essential than bringing in Aiesh.
