Leeds United are set to be dealt another blow in the transfer market by losing out on Kyle Bartley to their Championship rivals West Bromwich Albion, according to the Daily Mail.
The Swansea City defender spent a season on loan at Elland Road during the 2016-17 campaign and has been a target for the club since Marcelo Bielsa took charge last month.
The centre-back played 50 times for the Whites in a temporary spell with the club and was one of their better players in that campaign. He weighed in with six goals in that time and would have been a huge addition were they to tempt him back through the door in Yorkshire.
They were hoping that the time he spent at the Whites will have assisted them in signing him permanently this summer but it appears he could join the Baggies before the weekend.
That will be the latest blow in the transfer market after Leeds have failed to attract a top class striker to the club and will be causing concerns to their fans that despite appointing a high profile manager they are unable to attract any talent to the club.
The Whites have been looking for a top class defender to partner Sweden international Pontus Jansson for a while and having identified the man they thought they could bring into the club they are now left to look for another target.
Leeds begin their pre-season friendlies next Tuesday and face starting that campaign with a shortage of players at the heart of their defence.
Jansson will miss out on the early matches due to his involvement in the World Cup which leaves Bielsa with just Liam Cooper as a senior player in the centre-back position along with a trio of youngsters who can play there.
With that in mind, along with a striker, signing another central defender is becoming a real matter of urgency for the Chilean ahead of the new campaign.
