Robert Green drew enormous praise from fans of Leeds United on social media following the club’s 2-0 defeat at Brentford in the Championship last night.

The Whites were comprehensively outplayed by their opponents over the 90 minutes and even the most die hard of supporters would struggle to argue that they deserved anything from the game.

In fact, the general consensus was that things could and would have been much worse were it not for goalkeeper Green’s performance between the sticks.

The former England international pulled off a number of fine saves to keep his side in the game and was slightly unlucky to concede two goals, both of which came from rebounds after he had parried the initial efforts.

Had Leeds not shown a lack of inspiration going forward, Green’s display may have been rewarded with a point, but in truth that never looked likely as Brentford dominated proceedings at Griffin Park.

First-half strikes from Romaine Sawyers and Lasse Vibe were enough to seal the victory for the home team.

United, meanwhile, remain in fifth spot but now have just a five-point cushion to seventh place and need to beat Preston North End on Saturday to get their play-off push back on track.

Fans will be hoping that Green can maintain his marvellous form for that encounter after lauding his heroics against Brentford on Twitter; the best of the reaction can be found below:
