Huddersfield Town have reportedly overtaken Yorkshire rivals Leeds United in the race to lure Forest Green star Reece Brown, according to a report published by Football Insider.
The Terriers are preparing for a drastic change this summer as they are set to play in next season’s Championship after being relegated from the Premier League this past season.
This means that Huddersfield will renew their rivalry with Leeds, who failed to gain promotion to the top flight last term.
Huddersfield will need to focus on building a side that is competitive at Championship level as the major structural changes that take place after relegation often results in clubs struggling.
Leeds will also surely be in a recruitment drive of their own, with Marcelo Bielsa’s men keen to win promotion to the Premier League in 2019-20.
Brown was impressive in the League Two this past season and went on to play 47 league games, scoring 11 goals and also recording 11 assists.
He also has a good disciplinary record having picked up just five yellow cards and no red cards during that time. Brown definitely has the qualities which are required to succeed in the Championship and would be a shrewd signing for Huddersfield or Leeds.
The player’s current deal is due to expire this summer and as Forest Green failed to win promotion to League 1, he may well be open to switching to the Terriers or Whites as a way of moving up the divisions.
The report added that Huddersfield are in advanced talks with Forest Green in order to secure a deal for the player and to avoid the situation going to a tribunal which will be a source of frustration.
As such, Leeds will need to move fast to beat their Yorkshire rivals to his signature.
