Fletcher has featured sporadically in the West Ham first team this season but has not started a league game since the 5-1 humiliation against Arsenal on December 3.
The recent return to fitness of Andy Carroll is likely to see his game time reduced further, whilst there is constant speculation linking Sunderland star Jermain Defoe with a move back to his former club.
Leeds, on the other hand, are looking to add firepower to a side that has flourished under manager Garry Monk this season and currently lies fifth in the Championship table.
New Zealand striker Chris Wood has shouldered the goalscoring responsibility superbly with 16 in all competitions, but the next highest return is four from defender Kyle Bartley.
With this in mind Monk may well be keen to dip into the transfer market to bolster his attacking options, should the 25-year-old suffer an injury or loss of form during the second half of the campaign.
Leeds’ next league fixture is a Friday night encounter on January 13 at home to fellow promotion hopefuls Derby County.
