Scottish champions Glasgow Celtic are reportedly interested in signing Aberdeen captain Graeme Shinnie this summer, according to a report published by The Bristol Post.
The Hoops have once again dominated Scottish football this season. However, Rangers have made inroads this term under the guidance of Steven Gerrard.
Celtic will have to make smart signings this summer for continuity reasons and to ensure sustained success going forward.
Shinnie’s current contract with Aberdeen is due to expire at the end of this season, meaning that he is set to soon be a free-agent.
The 27-year-old reported Celtic target has been impressive this season. He has played 33 times in the Scottish Premiership so far this season for Aberdeen and scored three goals in the process.
Shinnie is now at the peak of his career and it is perhaps the right time for him to leave Aberdeen if he wants to stand a chance of winning major silverware. One of his strengths is that he is versatile and can provide strength in defensive midfield as well as at left-back.
The report however claimed that Celtic could face competition in the race to sign the player from the likes of rivals Rangers as well as English club Bristol City.
It remains to be seen whether Shinnie would fancy a move to England, however a move to Celtic could be too tempting to turn down.
