Championship side West Bromwich Albion are said to be leading the race to sign highly-rated West Ham United star Grady Diangana on loan, according to the Express and Star.
The Baggies are looking to do some late business for their squad, in order to launch something of a promotion battle out of the second tier this term under Slaven Bilic.
West Brom got their season off to the perfect start last weekend, when they came from a goal down to overcome Nottingham Forest 2-1 at the City Ground, a result which eased any concerns that they would lack firepower in light of losing Dwight Gayle and Jay Rodriguez since the end of last season.
There are still a couple of shortcomings in the Baggies’ squad, one of which is in the wider areas, a part of the pitch that is often key for the way Bilic sets up his sides.
With that in mind, West Brom have not only joined the race for his former player Diangana, but are set to be closing in on a deal to take the West Ham youngster on loan.
It did look like the 21-year-old would be joining the Baggies’ Championship rivals Derby County, however Bilic personally rang his former club and seems to have persuaded them to send the talented star in his direction instead.
Diangana made his debut for the Hammers last term, and went on to feature for them on 17 occasions in the Premier League, however with Manuel Pellegrini having undergone a serious strengthening of his squad, the youngster has fallen down the pecking order in recent times, which looks like being to the benefit of West Brom.
The Baggies will go in search of successive victories to begin their campaign when they entertain Millwall in the second tier on Saturday afternoon, and it appears they could have an exciting new recruit to unleash on the Lions.
