Kenny Dalglish has spoken highly of Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn to The Scotsman, and has suggested that he was impressed with his performance against Liverpool.
The Celtic legend has admitted that until the Premier League game between Villa and Liverpool at Villa Park on November 2, he had watched the 25-year-old only on television.
Dalglish told The Scotsman: “I’d only seen him on television before but I got a better idea of John McGinn last week when Aston Villa played Liverpool.
“He’s done brilliantly down there and we’ve bypassed the fact he played in their promotion-winning team as well. He’s come into the Premier League this season and done very well.”
McGinn made 42 starts and one substitute appearance in the Championship table for Villa last season, scoring seven goals and providing nine assists in the process, according to WhoScored.
So far this season, the Scotland international midfielder has made 12 appearances in the Premier League for Dean Smith’s side, scoring three goals and providing two assists in the process, according to WhoScored.
Against Liverpool at Villa Park earlier this month, the former St. Mirren and Hibernian star played one key pass, had a pass accuracy of 76.5%, won one header, took 48 touches, attempted four dribbles, and made four tackles, three interceptions and four clearances, according to WhoScored.
