Aitor Karanka has revealed he is trying to persuade Paris Saint-Germain forward Jese Rodriguez to join Middlesbrough but admits he faces difficulties.

The Boro boss has previously worked with the 23-year-old from his time at Real Madrid and is now looking to bring the young attacker to the Premier League.

Jese has only managed nine Ligue 1 games this season and has seemingly fallen out of favour at the Parc des Princes.

The French club have approved of the wingers exit but Karanka faces competition from the former Real Madrid players boyhood club Las Palmas.

The Teesside manager understands the battle he will have to face to bring the Spain International to Riverside.

He knows this step is really important so he has to be sure,” The Mirror quote Karanaka as saying.

“I am trying to convince him. He was playing for Real Madrid last season. Hes a Champions League player, a younger player with an amazing future in front of him.

With Gaston Ramirez having recently handed in his transfer request, it is more crucial than ever for Middlesbrough to seal the deal with a talented forward like Jese.

The North Yorkshire club are currently 16th in the Premier League having only netted 18 goals in 22 games, the lowest in the competition this season.
