Journalist: Bielsa is a ‘big fan’ of Leeds man that’s only played 48 minutes for Whites this season

Respected journalist Phil Hay has revealed that on-loan striker Jean-Kevin Augustin still has a role to play with Championship outfit Leeds United this season, despite having a slow start to life at Elland Road.

The Whites have had a great campaign on the domestic front where they are placed on the top of the league table with 71 points after 37 matches.

In the recently concluded January transfer window, Leeds were in the market to sign a striker in order to push their bid to return to the Premier League after a gap of more than a decade.

The Yorkshire giants ended up signing the 22-year-old Augustin on a six-month loan from German Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig.

However, the French U21 international has had a hard time adjusting to life in England where he has only managed 48 minutes of first-team football for Leeds.

Currently, Augustin is recovering from an injury which is why he has not featured for the first-team since February 15.

Athletic reporter Phil Hay, on his official Twitter account, revealed that the young striker still has a future with the Championship side, largely because manager Marcelo Biesla is a big fan of the player and he is just waiting for the attacking player to regain his fitness.

Augustin is one of the most highly-rated young strikers in Europe and has already scored 23 goals in 114 senior-team appearances in his career.

Leeds are reliant on Patrick Bamford for goals in the final third and getting the French forward fit could well be the final catalyst to get the Elland Road club back into the top flight.
