Glasgow Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has confirmed that star left-back Borna Barisic is very close to signing a new deal with the Ibrox club.
The 27-year-old has won over the Light Blues fans with some excellent performances this season and as such has been linked with a number of other big clubs, including Roma.
However, Rangers manager Gerrard has uggested that the player is happy in Glasgow and that a contract extension is very likely in the near future.
“We are in talks, so it is getting closer as the days go by,” the Gers boss told the Daily Record.
“I am confident because the boy is happy. I have a fantastic relationship with Borna and he seems really settled here.
“He took a bit of time to settle but he has got the fans right where you want them.
“He is getting the support from the terraces his performances deserve. When you are happy as a footballer you should stay put.”
The Croatia international has been at Rangers since the summer of 2018 when he moved from NK Osijek.
Since then, the left-back has represented Rangers in 50 matches in all competitions, where he has managed to score two goals and provided 18 assists.
In the ongoing campaign, Barisic has been in inspirational form for the Gers where he has already scored twice and provided 14 assists in just 28 appearances in all competitions.
Rangers are pushing arch rivals Celtic for the top-flight title this season and the fans will hope that the Ibrox club do not lose any key men during the transfer window.
Barisic has proven his worth in recent months and played a key role in the Gers beating the Hoops 2-1 at Parkhead back in December.
