Ipswich Town fans have been vocal, both in support and scepticism, after the south east club confirmed the signing of striker Martyn Waghorn on a two-year-deal on Monday from Glasgow Rangers, taking their summer business up to three.
The 27-year-old joined the Tractor Boys for an undisclosed fee from the Scottish outfit after an indifferent season at the Ibrox Stadium, with the Englishman netting only nine times in 35 appearances in all competitions in 2016-17.
The frontman fell out of favour within the Light Blues ranks after former boss Mark Warburton was replaced by Portuguese coach Pedro Caixinha, with the South Shields-born attacker struggling to lay claim to a regular starting spot.
However, Waghorn will now be hoping he is able to start afresh with new club Ipswich, and could be thrown straight into the Championship side’s squad ahead of the Norfolk club’s trip to big weekend winners Luton Town in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.
The talisman continuously split opinion during his time at Rangers, with the striker seen as imperative during the Glasgow giants’ rise from the Scottish Championship in 2016.
However, a much smaller return last time around left question marks over the former Sunderland, Leicester City and Wigan Athletic man’s ability at a higher level, something that was also highlighted throughout the 27-year-old’s spells in the second-tier of English football previously.
After signing Waghorn will be keen to emulate the initial success of new and former teammate Joe Garner, who also made the move south of the border this summer and netted the only goal of the game on his competitive debut during his new side’s 1-0 win over Birmingham City on Saturday.
Following the confirmation Ipswich fans’ reaction on Twitter was split in regards to their new man, with some claiming the two combined again should be a cause for concern to the opposition, whereas others hold little confidence of the former England Under-21 international’s ability at this level.

Waghorn. Another welcome addition. Had some peaks and troughs but another attacking option. Nice to see some investment #ITFC

Rangers fans seem to be happy they got £1m for Waghorn. That's never a good sign. Hope they're proved wrong. #ITFC

Could be a clever signing in Waghorn. Suited to Mick's style for sure. Hope he irons out his goal scoring record in Champ though #itfc
