Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has raved about summer signing Giovani Lo Celso and praised the attacking midfielder’s quality.
The Argentina international, who arrived at the North London club during the summer, is expected to add plenty of value to the Spurs team and potentially act as a replacement for Christian Eriksen in the long run.
Despite Tottenham fans only getting fleeting glimpses of the South American so far in 2019-20, Pochettino has been impressed with Lo Celso’s impact.
“He is an incredible boy, I had talked with Kily Gonzalez about him because he had him in Rosario Central’s reserves. He is a great footballer, he only needs time to adapt” Pochettino said as quoted by Argentine outlet Ole.
Lo Celso has yet to start a senior game for Tottenham since his arrival, though he has made a number of appearances off the bench.
It is likely that he is still adapting to life in England and should soon be handed his first Spurs start.
Lo Celso was also signed by Tottenham fairly late on during the transfer window and this prevented him from spending pre-season with his new team-mates.
He is likely to take longer than the likes of Tanguy Ndombele to adapt to his new surroundings.
Tottenham have endured a less-than-ideal start to the new season.
They have won just once out of their four Premier League games thus far and suffered a shock defeat against Newcastle United.
Tottenham boss Pochettino will be hoping that new signings Lo Celso and Ryan Sessegnon can help the team once they are fit and up to speed.
Spurs will have to rectify their weaknesses soon if they wish to be in contention for the title this season.
Liverpool and Manchester City are once again looking flawless this season. If Spurs continue to drop points, they will likely have to once again just battle for a top-four finish.
