Glasgow Rangers began their domestic season with a hard fought win over Kilmarnock on Sunday afternoon, and after the contest their fans were full of praise for their match-winner.

The Gers have been in competitive action for a while, with their Europa League qualifying exploits up and running, and the fitness they built up in those ties might have served them well at Rugby Park.

Things started really well for Rangers when they took the lead after just 16 minutes of the contest, which will have eased a few nerves, after the pressure was put on them by rivals Celtic, given the emphatic nature of their success on Saturday afternoon.

Scott Arfield was the man who gave them the lead, and it looked as though one goal was going to be enough for the Gers, after a week in which they’ve been to Luxembourg for their latest European outing, but when it looked like they were coasting for victory, things took a turn for the worse.

Rangers found themselves pulled back seven minutes from time when Scotland international Stephen O’Donnell levelled the scoring for Killie, threatening to ruin Steven Gerrard’s perfect start to the campaign.

The Gers didn’t settle for a draw though, and deep into injury time they picked up a winner when Connor Goldson powered home a header to win the game for the Ibrox outfit, and launch their Scottish Premiership in the perfect possible way.

It might not have been plain sailing for Rangers, but a road trip at the end of a tough week was a tricky start to the season, and they were indented to their big defender for the three points.

Gers fans were quick to praise the centre-back after the final whistle blew at Rugby Park, when they took to social media to reflect on the game.
