Darren Bent has launched a strong attack on Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino over the way he has used forward Lucas Moura in recent times.
The Brazil international has been a huge star for Spurs since arriving in London from Paris Saint-Germain, but he hasn’t been used as much as the former England man would have liked.
Moura had his biggest night in a Tottenham shirt when he scored a hat-trick in the Champions League semi-final in Amsterdam in May, but despite his heroics to get the club to Madrid for the final, he was left out for the trophy decider.
That was not the only time the 27-year-old has produced a standout moment in his time with Spurs, earlier this season he came from the bench against Manchester City to score the equaliser with his first touch, but was subsequently left out again after that.
If that was not enough to anger Bent, Pochettino then left Moura on the bench completely for the North London derby with Arsenal last Sunday, a match in which Tottenham surrendered a 2-0 lead and the former striker had some strong words about the situation.
“I like Lucas Moura and since he’s been at Spurs, I think he’s been so harshly treated. It’s crazy.” the Football Insider website quotes him as saying.
“He plays badly, he gets taken out the team and left out but he plays well, he gets left out. He’s probably feeling: ‘I can’t do anything right.’ That Champions League semi-final hat trick should have guaranteed him 10 games where he plays every one.
“Even against Man City early in the season, comes on and changes the game. For me, it would be Lucas Moura starting every day of the week.”
Tottenham play host to Crystal Palace in their next match after the international break, and Bent is sure to be looking out to see if there is an inclusion for Lucas Moura from the start or not.
