Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has admitted that he wants Manchester City to beat Liverpool in Thursday night’s Premier League encounter to keep the title race interesting.
Spurs are currently in second place in the standings after a midweek 3-0 win over Cardiff City, with at least one of the two teams around them set to drop points at the Etihad Stadium.
Liverpool remain unbeaten and at the top of the table, with champions City dropping points in December and falling behind the Reds in the race for top spot.
Tottenham have been in and around the Premier League title race in recent seasons without success, but Kane is eyeing a City win on Thursday night to avoid Liverpool extending their lead at the top.
“We’d probably like City to win to make it a little bit closer, but that’s not in our control,” the Spurs striker told Sky Sports.
“All we can do is look after ourselves and win our games. Over the last few years we have been in this position with Leicester, and then Chelsea the year after.
“We just have to concentrate on ourselves and winning games is all we can do.
“We will see what happens with Liverpool and City. We can’t think too much about other teams if I’m honest.”
Tottenham have been beaten by both Liverpool and City at Wembley this season and as such Mauricio Pochettino’s men will know that they will need positive results at the Etihad Stadium and Anfield to have a chance of winning the title this season.
Spurs have been one of the best teams in England over recent campaigns, but their fans are desperate for silverware as a reward for the side’s progress.
Winning the Premier League title has seemingly become more difficult given the finite margins of error, with Liverpool still unbeaten this season.
