According to The Scottish Sun, Glasgow Rangers are interested in signing Aberdeen’s captain Graeme Shinnie on a free transfer in this summer transfer window.
The Dons man is a current Scotland midfield star picked by Alex McLeish and always seems to play extremely well against the Gers – in fact, often bossing the midfield with his aggression and skill.
Steven Gerrard and Rangers fans were delighted with the Dons midfielder’s top rated performance to stop Celtic from overcoming Aberdeen at Parkhead during last Saturday’s 0-0 result.
Midfielder Shinnie once again went a long way for Aberdeen to produce a no-scoring draw against the best two sides in the SPFL this season.
This 0-0 result has given Rangers a slightly better chance of winning the title race than it could have been. It is back to an eight points lead instead of 10.
Is it possible that Rangers can turn things around and bring the SPFL, title with so few games left? Unfortunately, I fear it is perhaps too little, too late.
With Shnnie’s experienced defensive qualities, coupled with his passing ability, it could well work out for Rangers, especially playing away from Ibrox next season.
I feel it would be an excellent competitive piece of business to bring a player of Shinnie’s combative talent to Rangers on a three or four-year free transfer deal.
Shinnie’s versatility could prove to be extremely handy, as he has the ability to play in so many different midfield positions or even at left-back if required.
Rangers will definitely lose ex-captain Lee Wallace in May, so Shinnie could also provide competition for Andy Halliday and Borna Barisic.
Loanee Lassana Coulibaly will probably return to his parent club in the summer, if Shinnie signs for Rangers.
To sign any Scotland player on a free transfer situation, is obviously a good move for a team like Rangers.
They don’t have an endless amount of money to pay big money for any new signings.
