Glasgow Rangers are pushing for a deal to land Bolton Wanderers’ in-demand youngster Luca Connell, according to the Daily Mail.
The young midfielder’s departure from the Trotters this summer looks all-but certain as the Football League club’s administrators will look to raise funds.
The reported Rangers target, just 18, has broken into the Bolton first-team set-up and impressed in the Championship in 2018-19.
The report says that Rangers would face competition from Norwich, Southampton and Preston North End in the race to land the rising star.
Connell is a versatile youngster who can play at left-back or in midfield and Steven Gerrard is looking for free transfer talent to sign.
He has appeared mainly in Bolton’s U23 side and on 12 occasions for the first team since the turn of the year.
Connell has represented the Republic of Ireland’s U17’s, 18’s, 19’s and it seems impossible to keep Bolton’s highly rated youngster away from all the rumours.
The potential for the Bolton man to move to an English Premier League side is there, but his chances of regular football would be slight.
Whereas Connell, if he learns quickly under the expert advice from Steven Gerrard, and if he continues to improve further, could fight his way into Rangers first team next season.
