Aston Villa picked up another big win on Wednesday evening when they won 3-1 away to Nottingham Forest at the City Ground, to do their play-off hopes no harm at all, and after the match their supporters focused on a key man.

The Villans eventually saw off Martin O’Neill’s men, but the night did not start off too well for Dean Smith’s charges as they fell behind in just the third minute, when Jack Colback but the home side ahead.

They were not in front for long though, as the rest of the opening period became the John McGinn show, as Villa turned the match on its head.

The Scotland international had been out of action for the Villans recently, having had to serve a suspension, but after a good cameo appearance in the second city derby on Sunday, he made an even better impact at the City Ground.

He levelled the scores when he scored Villa’s equaliser, and then he had them in front on 15 minutes when he fired home to send the away fans bonkers.

The Villans then confirmed the three points, which moves them to within two points of the final play-off place, when Kortney Hause put them 3-1 up on the hour mark.

The visitors ran the clock out pretty comfortably for what felt like a huge win given their early deficit, and means they are in striking distance of the top six.

The plaudits all came for Villa midfielder McGinn after the match. His two goals were the catalyst in the turnaround, but he was more than just those strikes.

He was industrious throughout the contest as he had a point to prove, and show what the Villans missed when he was on the sidelines.

His performance certainly impressed the Villans’ faithful, many of whom took to social media to comment on how good he was.
