Leeds United have opened talks with Stuttgart over a possible January deal to sign creative midfielder Alexandru Maxim, according to Stuttgarter Nachrichten.
Garry Monk’s men are expected to add an extra player or two to their squad over the next month, in what should provide competition for places and boost the side’s promotion hopes.
Maxim has been on the German side’s books since 2013 and consistently scores and creates for his current employers.
Stuttgart were relegated from the Bundesliga last season but the Romania international has displayed over a number of campaigns that he had what it takes to play in the top flight.
If Leeds could bring Maxim to Elland Road, the 26-year-old would compete for a starting berth with Pablo Hernandez and Kemar Roofe.
Monk’s men are on an excellent run of domestic form and consolidated their fifth place in the Championship table with a 3-0 win over Rotherham United on Monday.
