West Ham United thrilled their own fans with a 2-0 win over Newcastle United at the London Stadium on Saturday evening, and after the match the Hammers faithful were quick to credit the performance of a star man in the contest.

There was a big feel about the game heading into it. Hammers legend Billy Bonds was getting a stand named after him prior to kick off, and the Londoners responded to the special atmosphere once the action begun.

West Ham haven’t always been convincing at home this term, but they were in front early on, and then went about enjoying themselves in front of a huge crowd and the TV cameras.

Declan Rice headed the Hammers in front in the first half, with England assistant manager Steve Holland watching on, and then another graduate of the Irons’ academy, Mark Noble, doubled the advantage from the penalty spot.

West Ham had to show their best football because Newcastle went into the game in good form, but they were no match for Manuel Pellegrini’s exciting West Ham outfit, of whom there is a feeling they could go from strength to strength now that their big players are fit again.

Rice is in the middle of a wonderful season for the Hammers, with England honours potentially coming his way before the campaign comes to an end, and his impact on the side has not passed their supporters by.

Plenty of West Ham fans are well aware of the influence he is having on the team, and also understand and highlight how much better he is getting with every match.

His goal put the gloss on a wonderful individual performance against Newcastle, and the Hammers faithful were quick to praise their young star on social media, when reflecting on the contest on social media.
