Former Rangers loanee Ovie Ejaria has spoken out about his feelings for Steven Gerrard, despite having left Ibrox to return to Anfield.
The Liverpool midfielder joined the Gers for the whole of the current season in the summer, but his stint in Glasgow was surprisingly cut short last month.
Ejaria had begun his Rangers career positively, featuring regularly in their Europa League campaign, but the longer his spell at Ibrox went on, the more his form dipped, and eventually a return to the Reds was the only solution.
The midfielder is now about to embark on another loan stint, this time at Championship club Reading, where he will hope to make a bigger impact than he did at the Gers, and for much longer.
This will be Ejaria’s third temporary spell away from Anfield, as he was previously sent out to Sunderland to gain experience, and if he is to have a future with the Reds he needs to make a big impression.
Before he gets stuck in at Reading, the former Rangers midfielder has been expressing his opinion on Ibrox boss Gerrard, with the midfielder full of praise for the England legend.
“I’ve played quite a few games now on both of those loan spells, they have benefitted me and I can take those experiences into this one.” The Reading official website quote him as saying.
“He (Steven Gerrard) is a very good manager and I’m grateful for the opportunity he gave me.”
Although Rangers were reluctant to let the midfielder go back to Liverpool, they have kicked on without him, with their 1-0 win over Celtic in their final match of 2018 leaving them right on the heels of their big rivals, in one of the most compelling title races Scottish football has seen in quite some time.
The Gers are currently on their winter break, but having already made positive strides in the January transfer market, they will be looking to overhaul the Bhoys and claim a famous league title in the second half of the season.
