For 2020, FIFA President Gianni Infantino plans to expand the World Cup from 32 teams to 48.

Infantino’s idea is the more the merrier, as he considers this not just a sports event but a social event as well.  His idea is to bring in 48 players where 16 teams will qualify directly for the group stage.

The remaining 32 will try to outsmart each other but the 16 teams who get beaten once will no longer proceed to the qualifiers. The winning 16 teams will form part of the “Magic 32” as with the original tournament.

Some groups of sports fans are seriously hooked into placing bets for their favorite teams. If you belong to this group, you may want to consider checking out Leo Vegas Free Bet Offer.

Selection Process for FIFA Host

Known simply as World Cup, FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) is an international football competition contested by the senior men’s national teams of the sport’s global governing body.

The inaugural game was held in 1930, and since then the championship was awarded every four years.  However, in 1942 and 1946, it was not held due to World War II. The last tournament was held in 2014 in Brazil and was won by Germany.

There is a selection process in choosing the next place where FIFA will be held. In previous years, European countries dominated bidders but for the 2022 games, it was decided that European nations would be excluded in the selection.

For the World Cup in 2018, Russia took the honor of being the host country. For FIFA 2022, Qatar won the bidding.

Other non- European countries whose bids were considered for 2020 were Australia, United States, South Korea and Japan. Indonesia was disqualified because it lacked government support, and because of financial reasons, Mexico did not push through with its bid.

It can also be noted that eight of the bidders, namely the United Arab Emirates, New Zealand, Lithuania, Kazakhstan, Japan, Iran, Croatia and Costa Rica have never hosted this game event in the past.

Bidding for the FIFA 2020 venue saw the highest number of bidders in a Futsal Word Cup bidding process and the highest for a FIFA competition. The bidders were given until August 5 of this year to submit their bids, and the winning bid will be chosen by December.

Although the selection Committee appoints the winning bidder, selection is always marred with controversies of bribery, corruption, and nations hurling insults against each other, as was the case between England and Russia.

The World Cup is a very famous sports event. It is being followed by millions of football fans, not only of the competing countries but even by those who have not made it to the qualifiers.

Moreover, even nations with no football teams or that don’t even play football at all are caught in the euphoria of this world famous game. As such, it is an even bigger event than the Olympics.

The game is participated in by 32 national teams who, prior to the tournament (at least about a month before the finals), already compete during the qualifying games.

These preliminary competitions are held at different sites within the host country until it gets down to the two remaining teams who would try to beat each other during the finals.

The World Cup is so popular that it is estimated that about a ninth of the entire world population is hooked to watching it transpire during the finals.
