Everton summer signing Jean-Philippe Gbamin has made himself a big favourite with his new fans by claiming their passion helps him and his teammates go to war for them.
The Toffees midfielder was one of a number of late additions to the squad at Goodison Park towards the end of the transfer window, and has already made a big impression.
Unfortunately for all Everton fans, they will not see the man who arrived from Mainz for a while, as he is expected to miss the next couple of months due to injury, but he has already shown the quality he has at his disposal.
The 23-year-old came off the bench on the opening day of the season at Crystal Palace, before getting his first Toffees start in the home match with Watford, only to pick up a problem in training which has him on the sidelines currently.
Despite his enforced absence, Gbamin has had some good words to say about the Everton fans, who he believes inspires his teammates with the noise they provide.
“Having the connection with the supporters is very important, hearing the fans like they are at Goodison makes us feel like we can go to war.” The Liverpool Echo quote him telling the match programme.
“It is great to have that support as a player, both when you are winning or having a difficult time. It drives you on to keep going and do even better.
“There is very high quality in this team and, with the fans behind us like they are, we can do great things this year. I will do everything I can to help us do that.”
With an international break this weekend and another one next month, Gbamin shouldn’t miss as much of the season as he might have done, which means he’ll be able to enjoy plenty more of the noise the Everton fans make.
