Ajax Amsterdam star Frenkie de Jong has raved about Tottenham Hotpsur’s man-of-the-moment Lucas Moura.
Spurs inflicted the Dutch giants with a sensational 3-2 defeat last week at the Amsterdam Arena to advance to the Champions League final, where they will play against English rivals Liverpool.
“We were no longer playing football. Everything went long. Then it becomes difficult,” De Jong told Voetball Primeur.
“Spurs also has a lot of physical strength. In the end the game just went wrong. Three times Moura … He is a very good player, very explosive.”
Ajax were the underdogs heading into the semi-finals, but they won the first leg 1-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Moura was Spurs’ best player during the second leg as he went on to score a hat-trick. It was his greatest performance for the Lilywhites since arriving at the club and arguably one of the greatest individual performances for Tottenham in Champions League history.
The hat-trick was Moura’s second for Spurs. He scored his first just a few weeks earlier against Huddersfield Town.
Spurs have not won a major trophy in more than a decade. The last time that they claimed a piece of major silverware was back in 2008 when they claimed the League Cup.
Tottenham now have a chance to end their trophy drought in superb fashion should they manage to inflict a defeat upon Jurgen Klopp’s side.
The Reds however will not be an easy opponent and will go into the clash as the favourites.
Liverpool are without doubt currently one of the best sides in world football. This is the second consecutive season during which they will be playing in the Champions League football.
They lost 3-1 to Real Madrid during last season’s final in Kiev and will be going all out this time to win their first trophy under Klopp.
