Glasgow Rangers took a huge step towards the group stages of the Europa League on Thursday night, when they overcame Luxembourg side Progres Niederkorn 2-0 at Ibrox, and after the match their fans were quick to salute a key man from the victory.

The part-timers caused the Gers heartache when the two sides met in this competition two years ago, when they sensationally knocked them out, but the 2019 version of the Glasgow giants have gone some way to ensuring there will be no repeat of that.

Rangers were in control from a fairly early stage in the match, with the only real disappointment on the night that the tie wasn’t put completely to bed at Ibrox.

It was a couple of the Gers’ new signings who stepped up with the goals in the comfortable win, and while Steven Gerrard wasn’t completely happy with his charges, he will no doubt be pleased that two men he brought to the club did the business for him.

Joe Aribo put Rangers ahead after 20 minutes of the tie, and then Liverpool loanee Sheyi Ojo doubled their advantage in proceedings shortly after half time.

The Gers had a chance to move out of sight when James Tavernier stood over a late penalty, but he could only hit the post, much to the frustration of their manager.

Ojo was the man who put Rangers in the box seat, with his goal potentially being the pivotal moment in the two-legged contest.

It wasn’t just his strike which impressed the Gers fans inside Ibrox, and those watching on, his all-round play and craft on the wing was something many also enjoyed.

The Liverpool youngster has hit the ground running for Rangers, something their supporters were quick to acknowledge when they reacted to his performance on social media after the game.
