Darren Bent has suggested to Football Insider that Leeds United central midfielder Kalvin Phillips is good enough to play for Tottenham Hotspur.
The former Tottenham striker has expressed his surprised that Tottenham have not yet signed the 23-year-old from Championship club Leeds.
Bent has also claimed that Phillips is the best player on the books of the West Yorkshire outfit.
Bent told Football Insider about Phillips: “I’d say in that Leeds side there was a couple of other players Spurs might well have looked at before him to sign such as Kalvin Phillips. For me their best player.
“I’m surprised already someone like Tottenham’s not come and got him. For me he was Leeds’ best player, as a young player, I thought he was brilliant, exceptional. I think he’s ready for that Premier League step up.”
Phillips is one of the best and most promising central midfielders in the Championship, and the 23-year-old took his game to another level last season.
The youngster showed vast improvements under Leeds head coach Marcelo Bielsa, and he was also deployed as a central defender from time to time during the 2018-19 campaign.
According to WhoScored, Phillips made 44 appearances in the Championship for Leeds last season, scoring one goal and providing three assists in the process.
During the 2017-18 campaign, Phillips made 36 starts and five substitute appearances in the Championship for the Whites, scoring seven goals and providing three assists in the process, according to WhoScored.
