I admit to feeling very sorry for John Hartson, the ex-Welsh and Glasgow Celtic star, when he was ill. I thought it was tragic that a young man still in his prime was so incapacitated.
I was pleased he made a terrific recovery, and now he opens his big mouth and talks a lot of rubbish. Unfortunately, he cannot hide his bias against Glasgow Rangers at the same time.
Hartson not only believes Celtic will cruise to another title, but he also backs an average Dons side to be second – absolute tosh. Rubbishing Rangers’ makes me feel sad for the man again.
Asked if he expected a title challenge from the Ibrox side, Hartson told BT Sport he did not.
“No chance, I still think it’ll be 15 points. And I think Aberdeen will finish second,” the Daily Record quote him as saying.
He is obviously forming his opinion from the Old Firm defeat at Celtic Park, which came far too soon for Steven Gerrard’s new Rangers side.
Hartson was as unimpressed as the ‘Gers fans were with the performance that day, but let’s see what happens at Ibrox in December, when the Ibrox club have bedded in all their best players.
“It was all hyped. They had a big point to prove in terms of ‘can they go up against Celtic toe-for-toe?’ They clearly showed that they can’t,” he went on to say.
“The result should’ve been four or five, if it wasn’t for (Allan) McGregor. Celtic hit the bar four times, hit the post. It was an annihilation; I have to say that. Neil Lennon said as well, there’s still a lot to do, a lot of hype around Gerrard coming.
“They had some good results in the Europa League, I’m not denying that, but I still think they’re a million miles behind Celtic.”
If Hartson is a gambling man, he should bet Celtic, Aberdeen and Rangers in that order, and see what great odds he will get.
