Everton have had a £7 million offer for Charlton Athletic prodigy Ademola Lookman rejected but are set to come back with an improved offer, according to The Mirror.

The Toffees have money to spend are expected to dip into the transfer market in January, as Ronald Koeman looks to oversee a top-six finish in 2016-17.

Lookman has come through the youth ranks at The Valley and is the latest graduate of an academy that has consistently produced players capable of playing at the highest level.

The versatile attacker is most comfortable on the wing but can also play up front, with some mature displays for the Addicks having the 19-year-old in the gaze of Premier League scouts.

The England under-20 international’s speed and trickery look set to see him playing in the top tier before long, with the Football League club struggling to hold onto their latest prize asset.

Charlton are said to have rejected Everton’s opening offer but the Merseyside outfit could well return with an improved bid.

The Toffees have had joy in signing players from the Football League in the past, with the Goodison Park outfit finding John Stones at Barnsley and turning him into one of the Premier League’s best defenders.
